Job Description
At AFRY, we believe that leveraging Power-to-X technology to produce hydrogen and synthetic fuels from renewable energy will be essential in meeting climate targets and a way to decarbonizing industrial, transportation, heat and power sectors.
To support the growing renewable hydrogen and Power-to-X initiatives, AFRY has created a dedicated team of experts providing extensive cross-sectoral expertise to support investment planning, development and implementation across the Hydrogen and Power-to-X value chains – from renewable energy sources to electrolysis process technologies, to the use of hydrogen in diverse applications, such as ammonia, methanol, and e-fuels.
We are looking for a TECHNOLOGY MANAGER for our Process Industry division to strengthen our Hydrogen and Power-to-X technology team in Finland.

Typical work tasks for a Technology Manager, Power-to-X include:

  • Project manager or study manager roles in pre-investment phases (FEL1, FEL2) of Clients’ investment projects.
  • Technology expert in techno-economic studies and due diligences in the Hydrogen and Power-to-X sector, interfacing with Management Consulting division.
  • Proposals development and support to sales.
  • Keeping up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and regulations related to Hydrogen and Power-to-X and providing technical guidance to Clients and colleagues.
  • Mentoring and training junior colleagues, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster professional growth within the team.

Your location could be any AFRY office in Finland, however Vantaa is the preferred one. In this position, moderate traveling (1-4 days per month) is foreseen, both domestic and international.
Qualifications

In order to succeed in this role, you have:

  • M.Sc. and/or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Process Technology.
  • Background in one of the following industries:
  • Chemicals, particularly ammonia and methanol.
  • LNG and hydrocarbon gas processing.
  • Industrial gases (nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon).
  • Electrolysers.
  • Oil refining and renewable fuels.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of proven work experience in process design, technology development or plant operations in the above industrial sectors, in senior or lead roles; alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the industrial sector combined with 3-5 years in academic research environment.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in project management of early phase industrial projects (FEL1, FEL2).
  • Proven experience in process modeling (HYSYS, Aspen Plus), heat & material balance, process and utility flow diagrams, equipment sizing, technical reporting, as well as in other process engineering activities in early phase projects.
  • Experience in proposals development and technical sales support.
  • Ability to develop new solutions and approaches in a client-oriented manner.
  • Proficiency in English, Finnish is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and cooperation skills, as the person will be leading a small project team and frequently interacting with Customers’ representatives.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset and problem-solving skills.
