The Shell Lubricants Hub Hamburg is the largest lubricant plant in Europe, producing more than 400 million liters annually. The site is central to Shell’s global “Powering Progress” strategy and currently being transformed into a modern and competitive supply hub to sustainably grow the lubricants business. Around 200 employees and 200 contractors ensure the supply to over one million customers in more than 160 countries. As a global leader in the lubricants sector, Shell is sustainably and future-orientedly developing this long-standing business. The plant supplies close to 50% of Shell lubricants produced in Europe, being the backbone of the European lubricants supply.

Responsibilities

WHAT’S THE ROLE

The Technology Manager leads the newly established technology department of the Lubricants Hub Hamburg and is responsible for laboratory operations, engineering, innovation and strategic planning. The Technology Manager is a member of the Hub Leadership Team, leads a community of around 20 highly qualified technology & laboratory experts and directly reports into the plant manager.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

As the Technology Manager in our Lubricants Hub Hamburg, you will be responsible for driving technological & laboratory operations excellence, supporting asset integrity, and driving the transformation towards a more efficient, sustainable, and digitally enabled lubricant production. You will play a key role in aligning operations with innovation, safety, and environmental goals. You will also drive the innovation agenda to transform the Lubricants Hub Hamburg into Shell’s flagship for automation and digitalization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and implementation of technology strategies for lubricants production processes and identify/evaluate emerging technologies to improve process efficiency, product quality, and environmental performance.
  • Lead and manage the laboratory team, ensure efficient laboratory operations, and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards (QHSSE).
  • Support/drive capital projects, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations from a technology perspective.
  • Develop, monitor and analyze process KPIs, initiate troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, regional/global process engineering and R&D teams, and external partners including start-ups.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and specialists and promote a culture of innovation and digital literacy across engineering and operations teams.
  • Drive digitalization initiatives, identify and deploy advanced analytics and automation solutions to optimize production, energy use, and maintenance.
