Technology Specialist L2 – START Analytics, Data and Information – Raraunga me te Mōhiohio   We have a permanent opportunity for a Level 2 Technology Specialist to join the ‘START Analytics’ team within Data and Information. The preferred location for this role is Wellington, but all IR locations will be considered.   * Expert in designing and developing compliance and customer focussed solutions. * Understanding the ‘bigger picture’ and then using your software development expertise to deliver enduring and innovative solutions.  * Flexible location.   Inland Revenue is an essential part of the fabric of New Zealand. We collect most of the revenue that our government needs to fund and administer the significant social and economic programmes that cares for the people of this country.    The START Analytics team is part of our Data and Information business unit. It has a key responsibility to support delivery of customer and compliance outcomes.    The team works in a networked way with our stakeholders to understand customer and compliance issues, gather insights into potential options and then develop innovative and sustainable solutions.    As a Technology Specialist you will ensure the design and delivery of end-to-end solutions within a specialised area of expertise, to improve customer experience and champion IR’s customer-centric and intelligence led culture.   About the role | Mō te tūnga  While no one day will be the same, your responsibilities will include:   * Configure and optimise software solutions focussed on compliance outcomes. * Analyse business requirements and translate them into system designs. * Work with databases, system rules and workflows. * Create SQL queries to effectively retrieve data from a relational database.  * Participate in full lifecycle delivery. * Collaborate closely with internal delivery teams and business units.   About you Mōu  The ideal candidate will have skills and experience: * SQL and software development expertise (C# preferred) including experience with using large datasets.  * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including logical reasoning and structured thinking. * Experience and comfort working with large, rule-driven enterprise systems. * Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to convey technical information and solutions to varied audiences. * Experience with compliance, tax or regulatory systems would be an advantage.    Apply here | Tono mai Please apply online, attach a copy of your CV and a Cover Letter outlining how you meet the capability areas above.   For specific queries, including a copy of the role description please email marco.van-hofwegen@ird.govt.nz [marco.van-hofwegen@ird.govt.nz] .   Applications close: 5pm on Wednesday 25 March 2026
