Description

ABOUT CAPELLA SPACE

Capella Space is a pioneer in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite technology and space-based signal intelligence. We empower government, commercial, and research organizations around the world with high-resolution, timely Earth insights that drive better decisions - across defense and intelligence, disaster response, infrastructure monitoring, environmental protection, energy, and more.
As a U.S.-based company, Capella designs, builds, and operates an advanced constellation of commercial SAR satellites in orbit today. Our satellites are backed by a fully automated tasking, collection, and delivery platform, delivering fast, reliable insights when and where our customers need them most. As a subsidiary of IonQ, a global leader in quantum computing, Capella is charting the future of Earth observation. Together, we’re on a mission to bring quantum computing to space - unlocking ultra-secure, encrypted uplink and downlink capabilities, reducing latency, and enabling powerful on-orbit analytics. This visionary integration of advanced remote sensing and quantum technology will support customers with the highest level of data fidelity, security, and speed.
Capella was named one of Fast Company’s 10 Most Innovative Companies in Space in 2023 and is a trusted partner of the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, NASA, the National Reconnaissance Office, and allied government agencies worldwide. Built In recognized IonQ on three of its 2025 Best Places to Work lists.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with REST APIs and cloud-based data flow and management using technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Unix/Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with process and code management tools like Jira, Confluence, and GitLab.
  • You’re eager to continue learning and expanding your skill set. We’re committed to supporting your professional development and growing talent from within.
  • You may have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical/Earth Sciences—or you may have taken a different path, such as completing a bootcamp or coding accelerator. We value diverse experiences and would love to hear about yours.
  • You’re comfortable participating in a periodic 24/7 on-call rotation. Here’s how it works: team members work standard business hours for their time zone and rotate into one week of on-call support. For a four-person team, this would mean one week of 24/7 on-call duty every fourth week (with escalation support provided).
  • You approach challenges calmly and thoughtfully, while maintaining a strong sense of priority and attention to detail. You’re also motivated to improve processes and documentation along the way.
  • You enjoy working across teams and can explain technical concepts clearly and simply. You keep internal stakeholders in the loop by proactively sharing updates on issues and requests.
  • You’re naturally inquisitive and eager to dive into our systems and technologies.

TechOps leverages our support structure to triage and resolve various requests across a variety of services. Consistency, reliability, and quality are essential to what we do:

  • We balance 24/7 support and on-call responsibilities by distributing our team remotely, working in overlapping time zones, and rotating through on-call weeks
  • We use root cause analysis to help us get to the true source of technical issues, and we help facilitate long-term solutions to prevent those issues from recurring again
  • We design, build, and maintain the appropriate monitoring and alerting platforms (dashboards, reporting scripts) to ensure we are monitoring our vital systems and associated key performance metric
Responsibilities

The TechOps Engineer is Capella’s SRE team. TechOps safeguards the reliability, availability, and security of mission systems by enforcing zero-trust principles, automating secure infrastructure operations, and continuously monitoring and alerting on these systems.
