Short description of the position:
We are seeking a new collaborator to join our team for the MULTITRAX-MR project “EFRE1059, EFRE-FESR 2021-2027 - CUP: D53C24002490009”, which aims to develop a cutting-edge VR/AR/MR laboratory integrated with our climatic chambers.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing high-quality 3D assets and immersive scenarios for the MULTITRAX-MR project, supporting alpine search and rescue missions, multi-hazard emergency simulations, UAV pilot training, and an alpine digital twin. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to create realistic and immersive virtual environments using XR (Extended Reality) technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop realistic 3D models, assets, and interactive environments for XR-based training and simulation.
  • Create and implement virtual scenarios using Unity and/or Unreal Engine.
  • Optimize 3D assets for real-time performance in XR applications.
  • Integrate interactive elements, physics-based interactions, and environmental effects into XR simulations.
  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and subject matter experts to ensure realistic scenario development.
  • Assist with scenario testing, troubleshooting, and iterative refinement based on feedback.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, and asset creation using tools such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max.
  • Experience in developing interactive scenarios in Unity and/or Unreal Engine.
  • Understanding of optimization techniques for XR performance (e.g., LODs, baking, occlusion culling).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and translate real-world concepts into virtual environments.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with photogrammetry or procedural terrain generation.
  • Familiarity with physics engines, AI behaviors, and environmental simulations.
  • Knowledge of haptic feedback and interactive elements for immersive training.
  • Prior experience working on research-driven or scientific simulation projects.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, willingness to learn Italian and German.

We Offer:

  • Opportunities for professional growth in an innovative research environment.
  • Continuous training and updates on the latest XR and 3D modeling technologies.
  • Full-time contract with competitive conditions.
  • A collaborative team dedicated to scientific excellence in research.
  • Attractive living and working conditions (Great Place to Work©).
