Description The Teen Counselor will maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in the Teen Program. This role involves facilitating enrichment activities, providing mentorship, fostering positive peer interactions, and promoting social-emotional development Essential Functions: Directs and supervises all Teen program activities to meet YMCA objectives Under close supervision, implements Teen Program curriculum, helping teens to improve leadership development, literacy competencies, values, and physical fitness in an activity-based environment. Engage in careful preparation for each group activity, including planning and providing needed equipment, a safe environment, supplies, and leadership in implementing activities. Provide a positive role model for children by adhering to the agency's ethics and boundaries standards, philosophy on behavior management, and maintaining healthy, relationships. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Marketing and distribution efforts. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations Plan and create innovative age-appropriate program activities and develop lesson plans that align with our Leaders Club, Youth & Government, Teen, and MAP Programs. Assist in the program Maintain attendance and complete incident reporting. Observes the functioning of participants and reports progress and change to supervisors. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants by providing close supervision of all activities Work as a member of a professional team that provides a positive growth-promoting environment for all children Keep the facility clean and conduct safety sweeps before beginning activities. Always know the whereabouts of all participants and the number of children in your care. Understand and communicate the YMCA philosophy and the goals of the Teen Program to the participants and parents. Meets at designated times with assigned supervisor to review progress Maintains the assigned work schedule that is in line with camp days and hours. Reports to work consistently, reliably, and at the scheduled times. Qualifications: Two years of related experience working with teens and at-risk youth preferred Minimum age of 21 Within 30 days of hire, completion of Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community Driver's License preferred Job Type: (Part-Time) Schedule: Monday-Friday 3:00pm-7:30pm Pay: $15.00 per hour, access to facilities to all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave If this sounds like something you are qualified to do and want to apply, please fill out the online application today!
