Description

We’re looking for an experienced Telecom Engineer to provide Power and Telecom field engineering and testing services to an electrical utility corporation. This role will be responsible for commissioning new or modified transmission facilities, overseeing functional testing, developing work plans, and ensuring compliance with specified design standards.

THE EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 4+ years’ experience in substation and communication field engineering
  • Strong background in commissioning, functional testing, and outage planning
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and coordination skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, PPE protocols, and jobsite safety
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word for field documentation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a closely related field
  • Willingness to travel 90%+ for field-based work across the U.S.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Available to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs., crawl, climb, and perform hands-on work in the field
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred
  • Must complete annual safety training; some training may require out-of-state travel
Responsibilities
  • Perform substation and communication field engineering, including work plans, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Conduct power and communication equipment testing, including relay calibrations
  • Develop, revise, and approve isolation and restoration work plans
  • Create functional test plans, execute testing, and prepare execution reports
  • Document test/calibration data accurately
  • Review drawings for constructability and ensure safe implementation of circuits during construction/testing
  • Prepare field-marked drawings, discrepancy reports, and closure packages
  • Plan and implement temporary circuits to maintain service during construction, including outage planning
  • Provide on-site technical support to engineering, construction, and transmission teams
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and prepare troubleshooting documentation as needed
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of multi-skilled teams
  • Submit weekly project status updates, including progress, challenges, and schedule changes to management
