Description

At Driftwood Communications Ltd., we are pioneers in the telecom industry, dedicated to designing, building, and activating comprehensive networks. Strategically headquartered in Saanichton, BC, we serve as a vital hub for Vancouver Island and maintain satellite offices throughout Western Canada to extend our reach.
We’re looking for an experienced Telecom Network Designer located in or around our Victoria, BC HQ — fielding and on-site work will be a requirement of this role at times.
At Driftwood Communications our Telecom Network Designers design civil infrastructure required for telecommunications projects, such as HFC plant design, Fiber Backbone design, and Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) design using existing and new underground conduit pathways and utility pole layouts for both wireline and wireless networks. Additionally, they complete HFC and fiber optic activations designs using the latest methodologies provided by the clients. They collaborate with key stakeholders including clients, developers, municipalities, leaders, and project managers to develop detailed designs and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in telecommunications design, including fiber optics, HFC plant, wireless communications, or structured cabling systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications systems, network architecture, and infrastructure design.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., TIA, IEEE, BICSI) and regulatory requirements for telecommunications design.
  • Knowledge of GIS tools and mapping software is an advantage.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, engineers, project managers, and contractors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
