FULL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Beacon is looking for telecom technicians for both the ground and tower crews. You will be able to grow your skillset in multiple directions of telecom, such as cabling, fiber, construction, and equipment programming. This permanent, full-time position includes testing, maintenance, repair, and servicing of various types of radio and wireless equipment, and servicing/construction of telecom towers.

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

  • Communication Technician/Industry Experience: 5 years (Required)
  • Class 5 driver’s license (Required)
  • Strong understanding of the processes and procedures for the installation of Fibre Optic Cabling and Terminations.
  • Basic knowledge of working in 48-volt power plants.
  • Microwave commission/testing.

KNOWLEDE & SKILLS

  • Previous experience with wireless communication systems
  • Previous cabling experience (cat5, cat6, coax, fiber)
  • Tower climbing/rigging experience.
  • Must be willing to travel to various locations in and out of province, with potential overnight stays.
  • Ability to work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and move up to 75 lbs., as required.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, resolve technical problems, be self-motivated, and calm under pressure.

Responsibilities
  • Perform commissioning of new telecommunication sites according to the implementation schedule
  • Remove, install, or make repairs to existing communications equipment on the tower and in the communications shelter.
  • Ensure proper inspection is completed of communications equipment.
  • Perform site maintenance activities and troubleshoot configuration problems.
  • Work with NOC at implementing fault management, configuration management, and performance management tools.
  • Test new wireless cellular products/technology.
  • Perform field RF measurements and data collection in support of the Radio Network Optimization Process
  • Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of technical low-voltage systems.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and repair equipment, utilizing knowledge of industry standards.
  • Demonstrate a keen ability to multitask and coordinate with multiple trades to execute your assigned scope.
  • Identify potential project risks; implement strategies to control deviations from estimated costs, while maintaining a sense of urgency to meet the needs of business changes.
  • Report status and be accountable to General and Project Managers
