Rate: £15.68 per hour Hours: Temporary / shift patterns (term-time and school calendar flexibility required) ***Enhanced DBS required We are recruiting a reliable and skilled kitchen professional to work as a temporary Head Chef within a busy community college catering operation. This role is ideal for someone who can lead a small kitchen team, deliver high-quality, nutritious meals for students and staff, and adapt to the term-time rhythms of an education environment. What We Offer Competitive hourly rate of £15.68 Temporary contracts with the possibility of regular bookings Supportive, student-focused working environment Meals on duty Opportunity to demonstrate leadership and influence menu planning Key Responsibilities Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring timely service for breakfasts, lunches, and any scheduled events Plan and prepare nutritious, well-presented meals in line with college dietary guidelines and allergen requirements Lead and supervise a small team of kitchen staff, providing clear direction during service Maintain food safety, hygiene, and storage standards, completing required records and checklists Manage basic stock control, receive deliveries, and report low-stock items to the operations manager Support menu costing and portion control to help meet budgetary targets Assist with training and induction of temporary or seasonal kitchen staff About You Proven experience in a supervisory or head chef role within a high-volume or institutional catering environment (schools, colleges, hospitals, or similar) Valid Food Hygiene certification (Level 2 or above preferred) Knowledge of allergen management and nutrition guidelines for young people Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to timetables and adapt to term-time schedules Reliable, punctual, and able to lead a team under pressure Positive, inclusive approach and commitment to providing excellent service for students and staff How to Apply If you are interested in this temporary Head Chef opportunity at a community college and meet the requirements above, please get in touch.
