This role is ideal for a chef who enjoys working in an organised environment, delivering nutritious, seasonal meals for pupils and staff, and covering planned or ad-hoc staff absence. You will join a friendly catering team and be responsible for preparing balanced menus that meet dietary requirements and school nutrition standards. The role involves managing daily food production, maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety, and ensuring efficient service during mealtimes. This is a temporary position with consistent daytime hours, offering a professional workplace and a clear structure. The successful candidate will be expected to work with the existing team and follow the established menu plans while bringing practical ideas to improve service and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Plan and prepare healthy, portion-controlled meals in line with school nutrition guidelines Manage kitchen service during breakfast, lunch, and occasional events Ensure all food is prepared, stored, and served to meet HACCP and food safety standards Supervise and support catering assistants and temporary kitchen staff as required Control stock levels, assist with deliveries, and minimise waste Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen areas and equipment What We’re Looking For Proven experience in a senior kitchen role, preferably within schools, care, contract catering, or similar high-consistency environments Good knowledge of food safety, allergen management, and HACCP procedures Ability to work independently, lead a small team, and maintain calm under pressure Strong organisational skills with attention to portion control, cost, and quality Flexibility to cover differing shift patterns during term-time and provide short-notice cover when required Level 2 Food Hygiene (or equivalent) desirable About Chefs for Chefs Chefs for Chefs are committed to promoting equal opportunities regardless of age, gender, religion, belief, race, sexuality or disability.
