Position Description
A temporary part time (0.5) Student Support/Electives Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Bert Bowes Middles School.
Bert Bowes Middle School is a Gr. 7-9 school in the City of Fort St John. The school enrolls a population of 500 students. We enjoy itinerant access to a range of services such as a learning resource disability teacher, teacher for visually impaired, school psychologist, ESL specialist teacher and teacher for deaf/hard of hearing. Some themes that characterize our school are a commitment to student centered learning, and a focus on collaborative planning. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Providingtutorial support in 1:1 setting, small group and in classrooms - emphasis on core subjects predominately literacy
  • Demonstratedsuccessful experience with literacy instruction
  • Discuss with other teachers preferential student’s scheduling (fewer teachers, teacher/class matching, peer-pairing, etc.)
  • Regularly monitor student attendance and learning programs
  • Identity and monitor student’s development through: Response to Intervention (RTI) model and other effective educational strategies such as, Learning Journeys and District Mitigation Plan
  • Acknowledging student’s successes and growth
