BARNWELL SCHOOL

Temporary Educational Assistant – approx. 9.9 hours/week
Hours of work include- Monday & Wednesday 8:13 a.m.- 12:26 p.m.
Friday 8:13 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (Friday hours will end in January)
Barnwell School is an early learning to grade nine school that supports a diverse community of learners, in the heart of Barnwell, Alberta. We have a population of approximately 170 students and a staff of 18.
Assignment includes: The successful candidate will be working closely (one to one) with a student who has special needs including language and cognitive delays, requires some mobility assistance at time as well as supervision/assistance with toileting. This student is on a modified program which means the successful candidate will be able to communicate clearly with all of the teachers who work with this student to help deliver the program and must be a team player. We are looking for someone who is patient, caring, and is able to build connections with this student and is comfortable working with the other agencies who support this student.
This assignment will commence September 8, 2025, and conclude June 10, 2026, or upon the return of the incumbent, whichever should occur first.

AN EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT IN HORIZON SCHOOL DIVISION:

  • Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
  • Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
  • As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
  • Maintains collegial relationships with the students’ learning team.
