TEMPORARY FULL-TIME LIFE SKILLS FACILITATOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH

Position to commence as soon as an acceptable candidate is found and position will continue until the return of the Facilitator.
A Life Skills Facilitator’s role is to work with students, school staff, parents, community agencies and other stakeholders to provide support for educational and personal goals to help students with inclusive needs successfully complete their school studies as well as develop pathways and opportunities for students’ transition beyond school. They will establish, seek out, and work in partnerships with families, various agencies and community organizations to enhance school programming as well as off-campus learning opportunities for students with inclusive needs. An important role of this position is supporting the wellness, resilience, skill building, and career goals for youth presenting disabilities in the Beyond the Classroom program. In addition, building independence for students with inclusive needs (where appropriate) is a key role. This level provides routine and repetitive support to students. It may involve assisting with supervision, training, communication, organizing community activities and the delivery of universal and targeted support. The successful candidate will work directly with the Inclusive Education Lead.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma is required
Completion of a Child and Youth Care or Social Work Program; or equivalency is preferred
Standard First Aid Certificate is preferred
Training in SIVA, Non- violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent is recommended
Related training or experience with children at-risk is an asset

Responsibilities
  • Support families and caregivers with providing opportunities for youth in the Beyond the Classroom program in the community.
  • Deliver innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of youth and small groups of youth in relation to Program goals, individual and/or the Beyond the Classroom program.
  • Develop activities and opportunities, in coordination with our Inclusive Education Lead for students in the Beyond the Classroom program to build skills necessary for successful entry into the workforce, post- secondary, or life after high school.
  • Provide feedback and develop lessons and activities for students in the Beyond the Classroom program on how to prepare for real world experiences after high school.
  • Provide assistance for students, including those with disabilities, in the Beyond the Classroom program in preparing for, finding, and participating in work experience and community placements/programs.
  • Connect students with employment/volunteer opportunities.
  • Provide guidance to students exploring post-secondary education.
  • Work with one or more students at a time on a regular basis.
  • Reinforce social and personal skills.
  • Reinforce strategies and skills (e.g. learning, memory, organizational) that have been taught to the student.
  • Assist in monitoring supplementary work and independent study in areas relating to life skills, career, and transitions for students in the Beyond the Classroom program.
  • Provide assistance in the implementation of individual program plans.
  • Support and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Record, observe, and chart student performance (attendance, participation, behavior, etc.).
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences upon request.
