JOB DESCRIPTION     Job Title:                    (Temporary)Heat Pump Trainee (Clean Tech Accelerator) Department:              Goodwill Temporary Services (GTS) Internal Dept.:           People Operations (Houston Academy for Career Development)    Reports To:                Senior Manager of Training Salary/Pay Rate:        $15.00 per hour, weekly pay FLSA Status:              Non-Exempt   Mission Support: Goodwill Houston (GWH) is leading change, connecting people, and improving the potential for the future of work.  We educate, train, and hire individuals with barriers to employment to help them thrive.  We connect people, families, and communities to improve lives and meet the workforce needs of today and tomorrow.  Powered, in part, by donations and retail customers, we change lives through the power of work.   Position Summary: A training position to ensure he/she is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to transition to a full-time heat pump technician position.  The trainee will participate in the Clean Tech Accelerator (CTA) career pathway program which consists of one week of foundational learning and four weeks of hands-on training in air source heat pumps.    Learn construction and safety basics, heating, cooling, and refrigeration basics, building science and air sealing, HVAC diagnostic and service equipment interpretation, HVAC installation and maintenance, troubleshooting, mechanical operation, and electrical components.    At the completion of this program, the team member will be able to test for the following certifications: OSHA 10 Construction, First Aid/CPR Training, and EPA 608.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Participate in five (5) weeks including foundational week, * Four (4) weeks of paid training totaling 160 hours of classroom and on-the-job training activities. * Must be punctual and have dependable attendance and maintain an appropriate appearance. Arrive on time for class daily, Monday through Friday (8:30 am – 4:30 pm). * Participate in testing activities related to certification attainment. * Come to class prepared as directed by the instructor. * Assist with cleanup of workspace and lab area. * Be prepared to participate in Employer Connection Day at the completion of the program. * Performs other duties as assigned by Management.   Additional Duties: * Demonstrate professionalism and present a friendly, cooperative attitude. * Ability to multi-task, make quick decisions, adapt to change, and work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.  * Adheres to all GWH Policies & Procedures, Loss Prevention & Safety Regulations, and GWH Guiding Principles. * Must be punctual and have dependable attendance and maintain an appropriate appearance.  * Must safely conduct work, maintain good housekeeping standards, have all aisles and pathways to fire exists are clear and free from clutter, and keep work areas neat and clean. * Adheres to all GWH policies and procedures.   Minimum Qualifications: * Actively seeking employment. * Must be 18 years of age and have completed high school or GED equivalent. * Authorized to work in the US. * Basic comprehension of English, including the ability to follow basic oral instructions, read manuals, and understand safety guidelines. * Basic financial acumen and proficiency, ability to solve basic arithmetic problems. * Must have an email address. * Highly motivated to work in the clean energy industry. * Commitment to 100% attendance. * Commitment to coming to training on time (should not have more than two (2) excused absences and no unexcused absences). * Must sign and commit to CTIA Trainee Code of Conduct   Key Performance Indicators (KPI): 1. Meets or exceeds the outlined expectations and tasks of the trainee position as outlined in the job description. 2. Ability to quickly learn and apply skills and methods required to perform functions outlined in the job description. 3. Meets safety standards. 4. Ability to test and earn identified credentials within the program. 5. Ability to meet attendance requirements – no more than 1 excused absence and 2 late arrivals.   Physical Requirements/Work Environment: * Able to withstand heights and navigate rooftops of different angles and surfaces. * Frequently bend, twist, squat, kneel, climb, crawl, and turn. * Utilize find hand function motor skills, including fine manipulation, grasping, and pinching. * Individually and frequently transport materials and equipment (~50 lbs., occasionally 100 lbs.) * Work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, basements, crawl spaces, tight spaces). * Hear verbal commands and warnings. * Work in extreme temperatures (i.e., 30º to100º weather). * Work in wet and dry conditions. * Work in excessive noise. * Climb ladders of multi-story buildings. * Stand for long periods (i.e., eight (8) hours/day).          
Responsibilities
The trainee will participate in a five-week Clean Tech Accelerator program involving classroom learning and hands-on training in heat pump installation and maintenance. Responsibilities include attending daily training sessions, assisting with lab cleanup, and completing certification testing.
