POSITION OVERVIEW

’Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team in a combined role as a kindergarten to grade 4 Literacy or math Teacher (.6 F.T.E) and Grade 3 / 4 (.4 F.T.E) Classroom Teacher. This position is ideal for someone who values holistic education and is committed to integrating Tsimshian language and culture into daily teaching practices.
Successful applicant can choose to provide direct supports to either literacy or math under lead instructors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification).
  • Experience teaching literacy and/or primary grades.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tsimshian language and cultural practices.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to Indigenous education and reconciliation.

Responsibilities

Literacy or Math support (.6 FTE):

  • deliver engaging literacy or math instruction across multiple grade levels as directed by lead teacher
  • Support students in developing literacy or numeracy skills in consultation with lead teacher.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement school-wide literacy initiatives.
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.

Grade 3 / 4 Classroom (.4 FTE):

  • Teach core subjects including , science, social studies, and art.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

Cultural Integration:

  • Embed Tsimshian language and cultural teachings into all aspects of the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with Elders, cultural workers, and school based team members to enrich student learning.
  • Participate in school cultural events
