EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate or Diploma in social work, psychology, child and youth care, or a related field
  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field is considered an asset
  • 1-3 years supporting youth in an inclusive education setting is considered an asset

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to effectively build relationships with students, parents, and RVS staff
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely manner
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
  • Strong knowledge and understanding maintaining confidential practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications

Responsibilities
  • Initiates and/or implements appropriate programming for all children with respect to developing a welcoming, respectful, caring, and safe learning environment
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and reassessment of programs in collaboration with the school administrative team and school staff, to influence behavioural change, improvement of self-concept, and development of social skills in individual students or an entire class
  • Conducts observations within the classroom and school, working with appropriate personnel to develop a student behaviour plan
  • Assists individual teachers in the collection of data on individuals or groups of students for program planning
  • Conducts individual or group sessions with identified students, which could include practical in-class reinforcement of skills
  • Liaises between school staff, the home, and other outside agencies, provides support to families, and assists in parent education programs
  • Liaises with parents and refers them to community and social service agencies with direction from school administrators
  • Provides services consistent with the components of the Comprehensive Guidance and Counselling model developed by Alberta Learning
