POSITION SUMMARY

This position represents a partnership between New York State Water Resources Institute (NYSWRI) and Hudson River Estuary Program (HREP) of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). The Hudson River Estuary Program (HREP) helps people conserve, restore, and enjoy the Hudson River and its valley. Created in 1987 through the Hudson River Estuary Management Act, the program focuses on the tidal Hudson and adjacent watershed from the federal dam at Troy to the Verrazano Narrows in New York City (see map of Hudson River Estuary Program Boundary (PDF)) with a program mission of addressing environmental justice and building a more climate-resilient environment, using science-based collaborative partnerships. The HREP Climate Corps Intern will operate under the general direction of the NYS DEC Hudson River Estuary Program’s Climate Team Coordinator to assist with communications, outreach, and research. The Climate Team seeks to engage, educate, and empower communities in the estuary watershed to adapt to climate change using natural, nature-based, and socially equitable solutions. Guided by the climate-adaptive communities goal of the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda, the Climate Corps Intern will assist with advancing a variety of climate projects in the Hudson River estuary watershed.
