Under immediate supervision and instruction, performs routine assignments in the Company’s Engineering Unit related to engineering & surveying activities. A limited exercise of independent judgment required. No supervision over others required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
• One year of experience in field surveying or closely related civil engineering work.Possession of a valid California driver’s license and good driving record.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written procedures
• General knowledge & usage of computer programs (MS Word, Excel…)
• Ability to perform basic mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
• Ability to read and interpret various types of mapping
• Ability to locate surface water system features in the field
• Effectively communicate both orally and in writingAbility to use manual tools such as a shovel, pick, meter hook, measuring tape, hammer, etc…

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Stamina to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Agility to climb ladders, walk on construction planks, and move safely in construction sites
• Strength to carry surveying equipment
• Visual acuity to see flags and markers and to read plans and maps

• Perform basic field duties assisting Surveyor or Survey Technician in field surveys including but not limited to opening manhole, valve boxes, vaults, and other miscellaneous structures.
• Perform basic office duties assisting Surveyor or Survey Technician including but not limited to fileorganization, document preparation, and cad drafting.
• Perform basic miscellaneous survey duties as directed by Supervisor/Surveyor including but notlimited to breaking asphalt, digging holes, setting control points, and clearing out valve boxes.
• Perform basic surveying procedures; Use, clean, repair, and maintain survey instruments andequipment.Learn and apply the policies and practices of the survey department & the companyPerform and apply appropriate safety precautions and procedures in reference to safety manual
