JOB REQUIREMENTS and RESPONSIBLITIES General: * A commitment to the core values of The Western Sugar Cooperative * Be committed to the Core Values of Western Sugar Cooperative * Safety – Integrity – Openness & Trust – Teamwork Entrepreneurship – Social Responsibility * Lead the sanitation team during assigned shifts. * Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of all equipment, including conveyors, packaging lines, baggers, palletizers, floors, walls, and drains. * Perform and verify daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation tasks according to the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS). * Safely handle, mix, and apply sanitation chemicals following SDS (Safety Data Sheet) requirements. * Operate high-pressure hoses and sanitation tools safely and effectively. SAFETY & REGULATORY COMPLIANCE: * Follow and enforce GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices). * Follow HACCP procedures, FSMA guidelines, and Western Sugar sanitation policies. * Ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is properly used before cleaning equipment. * Maintain strict adherence to PPE requirements (chemical suits, gloves, goggles, etc.). * Report all incidents, near misses, or hazards immediately to leadership. DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING: * Complete sanitation logs, checklists, and verification forms accurately. * Document chemical usage, areas cleaned, and time spent on tasks. * Communicate clearly with Packaging Leads, Processing, and Maintenance. * Conduct and relay shift handoff briefings, noting any issues or incomplete tasks. * Enter required information into computer systems as needed. * Report equipment or tool deficiencies and request orders for sanitation supplies. LEADERSHIP & CREW MANAGEMENT: * Provide direction, delegation, and accountability to sanitation team members. * Train new employees on sanitation procedures, safety rules, and chemical handling. * Ensure the crew works efficiently and follows all company policies and sanitation standards. * Monitor employee conduct and performance throughout the shift. * Identify, document, and immediately report any discipline issues, poor performance, safety violations, policy infractions, or repeated non-compliance directly to the Warehouse and Packaging Manager. * Encourage a culture of teamwork, safety, compliance, and efficiency. * Support continuous improvement initiatives and offer suggestions to enhance sanitation processes. * Review, assess, and provide feedback on relevance of cleaning schedule.  QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Required: * Strong communication skills in English (written & verbal). * Ability to read, understand, and follow sanitation procedures and SDS sheets. * Basic computer skills and accurate data entry ability. * Solid understanding of safety protocols. * Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime with little notice. * Strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and initiative. * Ability to work well in a team environment. Preferred: * 1–3 years of industrial sanitation experience (food processing environment preferred). * Prior leadership or crew-lead experience. * Basic knowledge of FDA/FSMA, HACCP, and GMP requirements. * Experience with industrial chemicals and sanitation equipment. * Forklift certification (or ability to obtain). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. routinely. * Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for 8–12 hours. * Ability to work in hot, humid, steamy conditions, and around laboratory or beet-processing fumes. * Ability to work in wet or slippery conditions. * Comfortable working in confined spaces or at heights (with proper training & equipment). * Ability to wear chemical-resistant PPE for extended periods. WORK ENVIRONMENT * Exposure to hot, humid, and dusty environments. * Work in areas with sanitation chemicals, steam, and high-pressure water. * Must be able to work rotating shifts (8-hour or 12-hour) including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. * Work alongside packaging, processing, and maintenance teams. EDUCATION * High School Diploma or Equivalent
