QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering (essential).
Chartered Engineer status (ICE, IStructE, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Minimum of 10 years’ engineering experience, including significant site-based experience in temporary works, structures, or geotechnical projects.
Strong knowledge of relevant design codes, CDM regulations, and British Standards.
Proven ability to undertake Category 2 and Category 3 design checks.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with engineers, site teams, and clients.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Design Checker to join our team, based in either our Leeds or Belfast office. This role is critical to ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of temporary works designs produced by our in-house design team. The successful candidate will bring significant technical expertise and practical site knowledge to review and verify designs in line with industry standards, legislation, and Joseph Gallagher’s procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Independently review and check temporary works designs produced by Joseph Gallagher Limited design engineers.
Ensure designs comply with relevant codes of practice, industry standards, and client requirements.
Provide technical assurance on buildability, practicality, and safety of design proposals.
Work closely with Temporary Works Coordinators, Site Teams, and Engineers to provide guidance and support.
Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and technical standards across the business.
Maintain accurate records of checks carried out and provide feedback to design engineers for learning and development.
