Ihre Aufgaben

As an architect or civil engineer you will work in a team with two other colleagues appointed to related fields to strengthen a professional focus on sustainable construction, which will be reflected in the further development of teaching in our relevant degree programmes and in research and transfer activities. As part of your qualifying professorship, which will confer the title of ‘professor’, you will have the opportunity to obtain the required qualifications for a professorship in accordance with § 49 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG)

  • either through a qualified doctorate (A, known as the ‘doctorate track’)
  • or by acquiring special achievements in the application or development of scientific findings or methods in professional practice, half of which is carried out outside the higher education sector (B, known as the practice track),

with the option of subsequently taking up a permanent professorship (W2) at our university.
In terms of content, the qualifying professorship aims to enable you to research and teach the planning of constructions, especially those from the 19th and 20th centuries, to highlight their future viability and thus contribute to an interpretation of sustainable construction that focuses not only on new construction but also on the adaptation and transformation of existing buildings. Within this framework, you will research, develop and teach sustainable and future-oriented concepts for the implementation of construction measures in structures and load-bearing systems, as well as methods for their scientifically sound sustainability assessment. Your teaching load is 8 LVS (teaching units per week).
After successfully completing your qualification and probationary period, you will be expected to take on independent responsibility for the above-mentioned subject areas at the current international and professional level as part of a full-time professorship.

Ihre Qualifikationen

  • You have demonstrated expertise with historical materials and the historical development of construction technology in the context of building construction, particularly the process of building design and construction. This enables you to meaningfully implement planning and construction in context of historical buildings, especially those from the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • You also have proven expertise and professional experience in the fundamentals and application of sustainability, energy, greenhouse gas and life cycle assessment in the context of building and construction.
  • You have a university degree and pedagogical aptitude.
  • If you are applying for the doctorate track (A), you can demonstrate special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least three years of professional practice, of which at least two years must have been outside the university sector. Alternatively, you can also provide evidence of professional experience outside the higher education sector by having spent the majority of your professional activity over a period of at least three years in cooperation between a higher education institution and a non-higher education professional practice. In addition, you have started a relevant doctoral programme that is likely to be successfully completed within the qualification period.
  • If you are applying for the practice track (B), you have already completed a relevant doctoral degree. In addition, you must have at least a prospect of an offer from an employer outside the higher education sector that will enable you to complete the required specialised work in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in a non-university professional practice for a period of not less than 24 months on a half-time basis.

Please note that you must decide which of the two tracks you wish to apply for.

You will hold a qualifying professorship as a salaried employee for a fixed term of four years. In the so-called doctorate track (A), you will be employed at the university on a full-time basis. In the so-called practice track (B), you will be employed part-time at half the level of a full professorship and will perform a suitable professional activity financed by third-party funds for the remaining half of your working hours.

The full fulfilment of the employment requirements for professors at universities of applied sciences in accordance with § 43 BbgHG and your proven track record as a university lecturer will be determined in a further appointment procedure in good time before the end of the fixed-term contract.
