We are looking for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the field of Medical Biomaterials. The open position is with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology at Tampere University.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is committed to high quality research and education in the fields of biomedical engineering, biotechnology, medicine, and health technology. We conduct basic, applied, clinical, and translational research in collaboration with Tampere University Hospital (TAYS).
The position will be placed in the Biomedical Technology (TECH) Unit. In TECH unit, interdisciplinary research areas include biomaterials, biomedical micro- and nanotechnologies, bioimaging, biophysics, biosensors, body-on-chip technologies, and cell technologies for various tissue and disease states.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking highly motivated applicants with a track record of internationally competitive research in medical biomaterials. Research interest and teaching capacity in synthesis and/or processing of novel biomaterials for biomedical applications would fit to our Faculty’s research portfolio. Appreciated track record could show also achievements in developing new biomaterials’ characterization methods, materials/cells and materials/proteins interactions or AI-based biomaterial design.

Especially, we are seeking applicants with expertise for example in the following application areas:

  • Drug delivery systems
  • Smart biomaterials responding to various external stimuli
  • Cell/bacteria-biomaterial and protein-biomaterial interfaces and interactions
  • Self-healing biomaterials
  • Antimicrobial biomaterials
  • Medical devices

You are expected to pursue and supervise scientific research in your topic area at a high level. We appreciate innovative, forward-looking candidates with a clear research vision. The candidate must demonstrate sustained international and national research collaboration. Collaboration with industry is encouraged. You will be expected to secure substantial external funding for your research group as well as nurture interactions with the wider society. You will contribute to the education offered in relevant degree programs in line with your own expertise. We require excellent collaboration and communication skills to operate in our interdisciplinary research environment.

REQUIREMENTS

You should have a doctoral degree in the field of material or biomaterial science, engineering or chemistry, or a related field and have experience in research in academia in the respective field or fields. You need to be fluent in English to succeed in the required tasks. Further requirements for each tenure track level are as follows:
