Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering (MIME) in the Faculty of Engineering & Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mechatronics Engineering focusing on AI-Enabled Mechatronics, effective July 1, 2025 subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activity, and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Teaching duties will entail teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate and graduate levels and supervision of students. The successful candidate will further pursue a strong, innovative research program or creative activity that is externally funded and that produces cutting-edge, high-quality results.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical-Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the appointment date.
In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of:
- a strong background in theoretical/experimental mechatronics/robotics related to the search areas;
- a strong emerging scholarly research and/or creative activity that is current, innovative, and impactful as evidenced by, but not limited to, peer-reviewed publications, working papers, public policy contributions, presentations at academic conferences, community and professional work, grants, research-related awards, and other writing or creative production that contributes to the visibility and prominence of the discipline;
- a relevant research area of interest that complements the research of existing Mechatronics Engineering group, including, but not limited to large language models for human-robot interaction or collaboration and predictive maintenance of mechatronic systems, robot imitation learning, robot learning from demonstrations, robot transfer learning, reinforcement learning of mechatronic systems, Real-to-Sim-to-Real for robotic manipulation, human-centric and human-augmentation robotic systems, interactive and collaborative robotics.
- potential for teaching excellence in Mechatronics Engineering courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum and suitability for teaching in the graduate program;
- eligibility to register as a professional engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario;
