Purpose Working closely with the Product Manager and other team members on projects, you will plan and implement effective test strategies in order to ensure the quality of a range of desktop, server and web-based software solutions needed to enhance and support the tech at Next. Responsibilities Use a wide range of techniques and technologies such as; SQL for database interrogation API and cross browser testing Azure DevOps/cloud, Team Foundation Server, Leapwork, Selenium, Browserstack, Playwright Design and develop manual and automated tests, producing detailed test scripts. Perform manual and automation testing Liaise with development teams and key business users during the testing, providing updates and status reports and alerting potential issues Accountabilities Know How Is aware of the difference between unit testing, system testing and regression testing Technically competent with core skills and willing to learn new skills Familiar with technical languages and tools available and is aware of what they can be used for Has a good overall view of the business and systems being supported and actively expands this knowledge Retains knowledge of implemented systems / process knowledge and is usable in future discussions Knows who their business contacts are Is aware that a problem may not always require a systems change - a change of working practice may be all that is required. Delivery Able to create test data which can be used to carry out testing Few post-implementation issues Fully aware of business implications of their work Actively assesses risk of failure and takes steps to minimise risk to business Takes partial responsibility for the full testing lifecycle of a project (with assistance from Senior Test Analyst) Always adheres to and sets team standards Able to translate high-level requirements into specification or test strategies Able to conduct analysis of system to identify areas which will need to be tested Post Implementation support is thorough and timely, ensuring that the whole change is ‘owned’ until proven correct in production Designs test scripts which prove that development works as intended Scripts / plans include pre-requisites and useful notes Scripts include expected database entries/updates Cover out of hours deployments Management Aware of the impact of developments they are testing seeking advice where appropriate Reports progress to testing lead using appropriate methods Personal Contribution Contributes to the overall goals for the Domain in various projects, spaces and groups. Seeks appropriate advice on performance and code efficiency techniques. Shows evidence of basic considerations of performance. Seeks appropriate advice on performance and code efficiency techniques. Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging trends Experience Required Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work within specified deadlines Knowledge and experience of software development methodologies, specifically agile Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment Problem-solving and analytical skills Technical Skills Required Strong working understanding of testing principles and best practices, with testing experience (certifications such as ISTQB are highly desirable) Has a basic understanding of the core technologies used within the area, including languages such as SQL, API, Azure DevOps/cloud, Team Foundation Server, Leapwork, Selenium, Browserstack, Playwright Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies Understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC), specifically Agile methodologies
