Description

Envitia operates at the heart of the UK’s most sensitive and high-profile operations. Our approach is entirely mission-focused, enabling customers to see more, decide faster, and act with confidence across complex domains.

We deliver situational awareness and information advantage across C5ISR, fusing cyber, geospatial, and kinetic data into an operational picture. This transforms fragmented data into a shared understanding of the battlespace, delivering actionable insight when it matters most.

Our solutions are secure-by-design, built from the ground up to protect sensitive information and ensure resilience in contested environments. We simplify complex heterogeneous data sources into a rich picture of fused intelligence, providing a digital backbone that underpins success.

We operate as small teams delivering fast value, blending deep technical expertise with agile methods to deliver measurable outcomes. Every engagement focuses on capability, clarity, and confidence for those who protect the nation.

A career with Envitia enables you to work with mission driven innovation.

We’re thrilled to announce that Envitia has been named one of the Sunday Times Top 100 Medium-Sized Companies to Work For in 2025—a prestigious recognition that highlights our commitment to creating an outstanding workplace where innovation, collaboration, and personal growth thrive.

The Role

As an Automation Test Engineer, you will design, develop, integrate and maintain secure software services and mission applications within classified government environments.

Working as part of Agile / DevSecOps delivery teams, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and security of complex digital solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, DevOps specialists, business analysts, product stakeholders and customer representatives to deliver high-quality software and provide confidence in each release.

This role is well suited to someone who combines strong technical engineering capability with a proactive approach to testing, quality assurance and continuous improvement. You’ll contribute across the full delivery lifecycle, from designing effective test strategies through to supporting release assurance in secure environments.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Designing and maintaining automated test suites using tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or similar
  • Testing modern applications built with technologies including Java, JavaScript, React, Spring Boot, Next.js and APIs
  • Embedding automated testing within CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery
  • Supporting functional, integration, regression, system and acceptance testing activities
  • Providing release assurance for secure mission applications and data-driven platforms

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and implement effective test strategies, plans and coverage aligned to delivery objectives
  • Translate requirements and user stories into clear, executable test cases and scripts
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites using tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or equivalent
  • Embed automated testing within CI/CD pipelines to support DevSecOps delivery
  • Support functional, integration, regression, system and acceptance testing activities
  • Identify, manage and track defects through to resolution, working closely with development teams
  • Provide clear test reporting, quality metrics and evidence to support release decisions
  • Contribute to environment readiness, test data management and controlled release processes
  • Collaborate within Agile teams, supporting sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives
  • Promote a proactive, quality-first approach, embedding testing best practices across teams

Skills Required

  • Experience working within the UK Security & Intelligence, defence or other secure government environments
  • Strong background in software testing, test automation and quality engineering within Agile / DevSecOps delivery environments
  • Experience designing and executing functional, integration, regression, system and acceptance testing, including defect investigation
  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools (e.g. Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, pytest, Cucumber or similar), including API and UI testing
  • Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks, reusable test assets and managing test data
  • Familiarity with integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, alongside awareness of quality gates, release assurance and modern development practices
  • Experience testing modern applications and services, including APIs, Java/JavaScript-based systems and cloud or containerised environments
  • Awareness of non-functional testing approaches, including performance, resilience, accessibility and security testing
  • Experience producing test evidence and assurance artefacts suitable for controlled or regulated environments

Security Clearance Requirements

The successful candidate must hold a current high level security clearance.
