Job Summary To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Test Development Staff Engineer (Optics/Photonics) located in Prai, Penang. Responsible for architecting, developing, and implementing the hardware aspect of the test development process with a focus on product protocols, interfacing with equipment and fixturing, as well as electrical engineering. What a typical day looks like: Work with the customer and design team to understand product test requirements. Interpret product specifications and documentation related to functionality. Understand manufacturing processes and tools. Evaluate different product interfaces. Understand hardware architecture and standard communication protocols. Develop environments based on specific test needs. Understand interaction between software, hardware, fixturing, and test environment. Collaborate closely with Design Engineers to understand product functionality. Design electrical test solutions. Stay familiar with the latest test equipment and instruments. Be familiar with structural tests (e.g., ICT, JTAG). Perform DFT (Design for Test) activities. Stay updated with the latest hardware technologies. The experience we’re looking to add to our team: Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, Physics, or Telecommunications. 5–8 years in optical module or semiconductor test development. Experience dealing with and testing fibre optics: Co-Packaged Optics experience is highly preferred. Strong background in optical transceiver or silicon photonics (SiPh) device testing. Experience with Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) relevant tests, including insertion loss, return loss, crosstalk, coupling efficiency (fiber to chip), eye diagrams, BER testing up to 800G/1.6T, and electrical signal integrity for high-speed SerDes testing. Proficiency in automated test platforms (LabVIEW, Python, C++). Knowledge of compliance standards (IEEE 802.3, OIF). Ability to debug failures (optical alignment vs. electrical interface issues). Experience in reliability testing (thermal cycling, damp heat, vibration). Certifications such as IPC Electronics Standards Awareness and Lean Six Sigma for test yield improvement are preferred.
