Job Description The Optical Test Engineer is a key position reporting to the manager of Product Engineering. As part of the Components & Plug organization, the successful candidate will support test development and provide insight from the factory floor vital in sustaining and optimizing the production line. Your tasks will involve identifying and taking corrective action on yield impacting items along with proposing and executing new solutions to improve the test performance. The ideal candidate will be: A team player who works collaboratively with cross-functional teams such as Designers, Product Engineers, Contract Manufacturers and Operators. Providing technical expertise and opinion on test hardware and software architecture. Working with both internal and external partners to achieve key product performance criteria during the product lifecycle. A typical day in this role will involve performing pareto analysis and using statistical process control to identify and tackle manufacturing and test issues. The successful candidate will also oversee the manufacturing floor and identify areas for improvement in either operator handling, test efficiency or test hardware selection. Most importantly, the successful candidate will help to develop the tools and instructions to automate these processes and make them shareable across products. Primary Duties and Responsibilities of candidate will include: Drive continuous improvement for product yields, test time and cost reduction. Enhance fault isolation and troubleshooting tools for both Engineers and Operators Assist with production scaling (GR&R, optimization, commissioning, maintenance, etc.) and qualification activities for Ciena’s components products. Support CM teams for failure analysis, root cause identification and corrective action implementation of components, and field failures Required Skills Team player who can effectively collaborate with cross functional teams. Technical understanding of testing and manufacturing processes for InP and SiPhot optical components or experience in any similar high tech manufacturing environment would be considered Must be reliable and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong commitment to customer satisfaction Self-motivated, well-organized, and willingness to learn. Required Experience Required: BS or MS degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a degree in a related discipline Required: Good understanding of optical concepts (insertion loss, polarization, etc.) Required: Experience with optical component test methodology and hardware Required: Basic understanding of electronics (viewing schematics and board files) Desired: Database, data analysis tool expertise Required: Programming experience (MATLAB an asset; C# or Python).
