Summary: We are looking for a Test Engineer to support design validation of Ekona’s Steady Flow Reactor (SFR) as well as Gen2 reactor platforms. Reporting to the Test Engineering Team Lead, the Test Engineer will support the R&D and Product Development teams, validating reactor concepts to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs). Primary Responsibilities: Lead the operation of the Steady Flow Reactor. Assist in development and operation of Gen2 reactor system. Operate process equipment and balance of plant. Develop and execute detailed test plans to characterize said equipment regarding emissions, system performance and other corporate KPIs. Develop, evolve, own, and maintain high standards for test reporting on SFR operations. Support the design of detailed test systems including process design, electrical and control requirements. Support mechanical and electrical modifications to the reactor system. Develop test safety processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Participate in safety analyses such as HAZOP, PHA, DFMEA. Support the development and management of large test data sets. Analyze test data, develop and distribute focused and timely test reports. Collect experimental test data to validate analytical models. Perform thermal and combustion metric calculations. Work early morning, late afternoon, or night shift hours (up to 12hrs) with adequate notice when required for extended test operation. You Bring: Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical, chemical, process, or systems engineering (or equivalent) 4-8 years relevant and comparable experience in testing/engineering environments. Experience with both high and low speed instrumentation (dynamic pressure and temperature sensors), flow meters, regulators, etc. Hands-on experience with high-pressure piping and fittings, and high pressure, high temperature chemical processes. Experience with process control system hardware and DAQ software (DCS, HMI, PLC, National Instruments), etc. Familiarity with document test asset designs using PFD, PIDs, Instrument Index, Line List, Piping Isometrics, Wiring Diagrams, Plant 3D layout, etc. Strong mechanical aptitude. Exceptional organizational skills. Strong communication abilities: both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to travel occasionally, if/when required Ability to work an averaging schedule during testing periods- morning, late afternoon, or night shifts (up to 12 hours) Additional Experience (an asset): Experience with thermal sciences, focusing on reacting/combustion systems Combustion test experience with thorough involvement operating the following: Gas Turbines Boilers and Process Heaters Flares Experimental burners (or the like) Relevant Industry, R&D and Product Development experience from fields such as: Aerospace, Boilers, Petrochemical, Gas Turbines, or the like Experience with data analysis and data management tools such as databases and scripting (Python, MATLAB) Strong understanding of O2 and H2 system safety Experience with gas sampling and continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) Work Environment The work location is the Ekona head office in Burnaby, British Columbia (in person) Laboratory, office and industrial plant setting Working Hours Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday During testing, you will be required to work special shifts including nights and weekends in 12-hour durations over a specified period (i.e. 2 weeks periods) We Offer Purposeful work - we are developing breakthrough technology that transforms the way we produce clean hydrogen and carbon black to combat climate change.
