The Test Engineering will be responsible for the development of test plan, test program, test fixture design and documentation for Battery Management and Battery Assembly systems for industrial, automotive, and military applications. This position will interface with Product Design, Quality, and Operations/Production teams, in addition to end customer interactions.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Design and development of automated test equipment/platforms for testing battery management and battery assembly systems.
- Maintain/improve hardware and software for existing test systems
- Generate and maintain test equipment, test fixture, factory test documentation (schematics, BOM’s, assembly drawings)
- Create, debug, and implement Fuel Gauge Libraries to ATE System used for testing battery management system.
- Automated Test System wiring and Validation, Test Fixture wiring and validation
- Provide support to engineering prototype activities: system assembly, qualification and design verification testing and debugging.
Core Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of test and measurement instrumentation, including test automation and PC-based I/O and data acquisition hardware.
- Basic knowledge in designing and developing test software routines based on product or component datasheets.
- Familiarity with BMS IC’s and controllers, microprocessors and power semiconductors.
- Deep understanding of communication protocols (GPOB, CAN, I2C, SMBus, HDQ, PMBus, etc.).
- Proficiency with designing test fixture schematics, using Altium will be an asset.
- Ability to design and maintain databases in Microsoft SQL environment.
- Strong knowledge of test automation approaches and testing framework.
- Comprehensive test development experience, including procurement, software and hardware development, system integration, installation, commissioning and support for manufacturing.
- Knowledge of third-party test system (NH Research and Chroma).
- Appreciation of and rigorous compliance with design control procedures.
- High attention to detail with excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
- Strong and self-motivated team player.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5 years minimum experience in power electronics or BMS (battery management system) as a test engineer.
- 2-3 years’ experience in test automation/software design, using National Instruments LabView.
- Experienced in In Circuit Testing programming and debugging.
- Experience with battery management and assembly systems (up to 500V/50kWh) for industrial, military or mild hybrid electric vehicle (mHEV) applications is an asset.
Education
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering or related field.
