Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.
The Boeing Company is looking for a Test & Evaluation Engineer (TE) to join our team in Berkeley, MO. This role is essential within the wind tunnel aerodynamic test engineering field. As a TE, you will be part of the St. Louis Aero Test team within Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E), focusing on wind tunnel test engineering. The Aero Test team conducts wind tunnel tests for all Boeing divisions, including Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) and Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), utilizing both Boeing-owned and external wind tunnel facilities.
As a Test & Evaluation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, planning, and coordination of wind tunnel test efforts. Each test will have at least one TE assigned, depending on its complexity. You will collaborate closely with the operations team and program partners to ensure that tests are conducted effectively, efficiently, and safely, meeting the requirements of our business partners.
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of aerodynamic concepts and applications, including test techniques and basic wind tunnel operations. Excellent communication skills, teamwork, and adaptability to changing requirements are essential. Given that a significant portion of wind tunnel testing occurs in the research and development sector, flexibility and a quick response capability are critical. Strong documentation skills are also necessary to maintain proper configuration control and to record troubleshooting processes.
The St. Louis Aero Test organization oversees the Boeing Polysonic Wind Tunnel (PSWT) and supports testing at various wind tunnel facilities worldwide. While the TE will support PSWT, there will also be opportunities to assist at remote test facilities, requiring travel. This role involves approximately 25% travel throughout the year, with some tests lasting over 30 days. Travel may be initiated with little or no notice, and TEs may work non-standard shifts based on test and facility schedules.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, Mid-Level and Senior Level Test & Evaluation Engineers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Experience with Aerodynamic Engineering

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Level 3: 3 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4: 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • An active U.S. Secret or higher Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of test experience in a flight or lab environment

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Required

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary liaison for all communication and coordination between the test facility and the test customer
  • Collect, organize, and document all test-related information, decisions, and details throughout the planning and execution phases, maintaining this data as a quality record for future reference
  • Ensure that operational procedures and measurement techniques employed during the test are sufficient to meet the test objectives
  • Prepare test model hardware and associated instrumentation, including participation in acceptance testing and approval processes at fabricator or vendor locations
  • Identify and mitigate hazards and risks to personnel, the testing facility, and the specific test hardware
  • Develop a thorough understanding of applicable test hardware to ensure the effectiveness, efficiency, and adequacy of hardware assemblies, focusing on achieving accurate and repeatable configurations while minimizing model change times during tunnel occupancy
