This role combines strong leadership in QA practices with deep hands-on technical proficiency, focusing on key areas such as test automation, test process optimisation, and test environment management (TEM).
The role plays a pivotal part in ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient testing frameworks that support the delivery of high-quality software solutions aligned with business goals.
Key responsibilities include:

Testing Leadership & Strategy

  • Co-create and lead the end-to-end testing strategy for complex technical programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, technical architecture, and delivery timelines and budgets.
  • Champion best practices in quality assurance, test automation, and continuous testing across Delivery teams to enable faster and more reliable testing outcomes.
  • Co-design and implement robust and scalable risk-based testing frameworks, balancing manual and automated testing efforts to maximise efficiency and coverage.
  • Advocate for quality and testing standards in delivery planning, ensuring testing is integrated seamlessly into the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Programme & Quality Management

  • Understand and implement both regulatory, AIA Group, and AIA NZ testing standards and protocols to ensure consistency and integrity in testing.
  • Create / co-create and author required testing artefacts such as, Test Strategy Document, Test Approach Document, Test Plan Document, Requirements to Test Traceability Matrix, Test Execution Progress Report, Test Summary Report, Test Estimation, Test Schedule, Defect Report, and other related deliverables.
  • Act as a trusted advisor in quality by evaluating a situation or problem, understanding the risks, costs, and benefits, and applying sound judgement to define the appropriate mitigation strategies, including types and levels of testing to be carried out to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Drive collaboration across various technology teams to align on test environments, data needs, and resource planning.
  • Monitor and report key quality metrics (e.g., defect density, automation coverage, test cycle efficiency) to measure testing delivery success and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Manage and resolve challenges related to environment readiness, test data availability, and resource constraints with a solutions-oriented mindset.

Technical Expertise

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of state-of-the-art test automation frameworks for UI, API, mobile, integration, and performance testing.
  • Partner with DevOps teams to implement continuous testing practices in CI/CD pipelines, enabling rapid feedback and shorter release cycles.
  • Drive shift-left testing methodologies, collaborating closely with development teams for early defect detection.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and inspire a high-performing team of QA engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
  • Drive alignment between engineering, QA, and product teams to maintain a cohesive vision for quality at every stage of the program lifecycle.
  • Establish an efficient onboarding process with standardisation of QA processes and accelerator templates.

Test Environment Management (TEM) & Test Data Strategy:

  • Own and oversee the provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of test environments, ensuring stability and availability.
  • Implement automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices to streamline environment management, test environment refreshes, and test data provisioning.
  • Implement synthetic data generation techniques to create reliable and reusable test datasets.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to establish data masking, obfuscation, and anonymisation processes on sensitive data in the test environments (e.g., PII, PHI, PCI, etc.)

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies to continuously enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of the testing process.
  • Spearhead initiatives to adopt cutting-edge techniques, such as AI-driven testing, predictive analytics, and test data engineering, to future-proof testing strategies.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Strong experience with CI/CD and DevOps principles
  • Strong experience with the principles and practical implementation of riskbased testing, scenario-based testing, and behavior-driven testing across diverse technical solutions and complex business environments.

Highly Desirable:
