From architecting and amplifying the reach of a private, global, multi-cloud IP network, to bringing hyperlocal edge technology right to your fingertips through intuitive APIs, we're shaping a new era of seamless interconnection between people, devices, and applications. We're driven by a desire to transform and modernize what's antiquated, automate the manual, and solve real-world problems through innovative connectivity solutions. As a testament to our success, we're proud to stand as a financially stable and profitable company. Our robust profitability allows us not only to invest in pioneering technologies but also to foster an environment of continuous learning and growth for our team. Our collective vision is a world where borderless connectivity fuels limitless innovation. By joining us, you can be part of laying the foundations for this interconnected future. We're currently seeking passionate individuals who are excited about the opportunity to contribute to an industry-shaping company while growing their own skills and careers. About Telnyx Telnyx is a global connectivity platform enabling voice, messaging, wireless, and networking products for customers who build real-time applications. Our infrastructure spans the globe and supports mission-critical communication workloads for enterprises, platforms, and applications. We are engineering-led, customer-obsessed, profitable, and growing fast. You’ll join a high-impact team building distributed systems used by thousands of developers. About the Role We are looking for a Senior Elixir Engineer to join our Real-Time Communications (RTC) team. You will design, build, scale, and maintain distributed telecom systems used for SIP signaling, call routing, media processing, and real-time voice services. You’ll work primarily in Elixir/OTP, contributing to systems that must be extremely reliable, latency-optimized, and globally distributed. You’ll collaborate with engineers across infrastructure, networking, and platform teams to deliver fault-tolerant systems that operate at massive scale. This is a high-impact role where you’ll own major components of our RTC platform. What You’ll Do Design, develop, and maintain Elixir/OTP services for SIP signaling, call routing, and real-time media flows. Build fault-tolerant distributed systems that require extreme reliability (five-nines availability). Work with telecom protocols (SIP, RTP, WebRTC, STIR/SHAKEN) and event-driven architectures. Optimize performance and reduce latency across global edge locations. Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for real-time systems. Debug complex distributed issues involving networking, signaling flows, and concurrency. Collaborate with Infrastructure, Data, and Network Engineering teams to evolve system architecture. Improve observability and monitoring for Elixir-based telecom services. Mentor junior engineers and set engineering excellence across the team. What You’ll Bring (Must-Haves) 4+ years professional experience building production systems in Elixir/OTP Deep understanding of concurrency, processes, supervisors, and GenServers Experience building distributed, high-availability systems Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP, NAT traversal, DNS) Hands-on experience with SIP, RTP, or real-time communications protocols Strong debugging skills in distributed or real-time environments Experience with Postgres, Redis, Kafka, or similar technologies Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested code Comfortable participating in on-call rotations for high-availability systems Nice-to-Haves Experience with FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, or similar softswitch technologies Experience with WebRTC, media servers, or STT/TTS pipelines Knowledge of BEAM performance tuning Experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and observability stacks Telecom background (carrier networks, SBCs, ENUM, signaling gateways) Previous work in high-growth or high-scale distributed environments Contributions to open-source Elixir or BEAM projects Success in This Role Looks Like After 6–12 months, you will have: Owned and delivered major Elixir/OTP systems into production Improved reliability, latency, and scalability of RTC components Led incident response and implemented lasting improvements Become a subject-matter expert in real-time telecom flows Collaborated across teams to evolve the RTC architecture Demonstrated strong ownership and accountability for core services Why You’ll Love Working Here Work on real-time systems used globally and at extreme scale Join a deeply technical, engineering-driven culture Learn from experts in Elixir, distributed systems, and telecom Have autonomy and ownership over critical platform components Equal Opportunity Statement Telnyx is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and do not discriminate based on protected characteristics.
