The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) is an inter-disciplinary research centre at the
heart of the European University Institute (EUI). It was established in 1992 to complement the four EUI
disciplinary departments (Economics, History and Civilization, Law, Political and Social Sciences) with the aim
to be involved in both basic and policy research, collaborate with other centres of excellence in Europe,

Employment details
Contract type Full-time (30/30, 40 hours/week)
Length of contract 12 months. Start date: 1 July 2025. The contract duration is linked to the project
duration, which ends on 30 June 2026.
This contract may be further renewed (several times and conditional to the
availability of funds), leading to an extension of the period of service up to a total of
5 years, including the first contract period.
Salary indication and Grade: ASTAC1e step 1
GRADE
The basic net monthly salary after taxes is approximately € 2,150 Euro, plus
allowances if applicable.

About the project
Project Directors Prof. Liesbet Hooghe and Prof. Gary Marks
Project details TRANSNATIONAL seeks to explain polarization in Western societies on
immigration, international governance, and climate change. One side embraces
open societies, cultural diversity, and international governance; the other considers
these as a threat to their national community and their way of life.
It will combine insights from political cleavage theory with those on identity theory
and social networks to examine transnational polarization through surveys, natural
experiments and interviews.
The research is funded by a five-year advanced ERC grant to Liesbet Hooghe
which started in January 2021.
Job description The Research Assistant will provide research assistance to the Directors of the
project.
Main tasks include:
