Description

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) and Billboard (BB) are seeking an Assistant Photo Editor to contribute to our print magazines. This cross-functional role requires a passion for photography and experience with administrative support.
The Assistant Photo Editor will be comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple projects for both magazines under tight deadlines. They should have a creative visual eye and the ability to express conceptual ideas about photography. This role is heavily administrative and requires excellent communication skills on and off set. This role requires driving to off-site locations and occasional travel.
Seeking candidates based in Los Angeles, reporting to the THR Visual Media Director and the BB Photo Director, and requiring close collaboration with the photo and design teams, as well as editors and the broader teams (AP, Marketing, Video, etc.)

SKILLS:

  • A love for photography and an interest in the entertainment industry
  • Knowledge of digital photography, retouching, and photo equipment
  • Adept at Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge, Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in Excel and comfortable with numbers, invoices, and budgeting.
  • Verbal and written communication skills. Must be capable of comfortably cold
  • calling vendors over the phone and managing a large volume of emails
  • Fluent on a photo set and ability to work discreetly with high profile talent,
  • publicists, and glam teams
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks while working on multiple projects
  • Problem solving under pressure and logistics management
Responsibilities
  • Pre-Production coordination including research, location scouting, call sheets,
  • vendor optioning, permits, equipment orders, etc.
  • On-set assistance to ensure photoshoots run smoothly, including production runs,
  • talent ushering, art directing, and problem solving
  • Point of contact for the photo department, capable of efficiently communicating
  • with publicists, studios, agencies, etc.
  • Independently produce smaller shoots
  • Prepping images for social and web formats and timely delivery of final assets to
  • relevant teams for each issue
  • Vendor and AP management including client onboarding, invoice processing,
  • budget tracking, and contracts
  • Maintain a directory of vendors (photographers, glam, locations, set designers, etc)
  • Assist with photo research to license from stock agencies
  • Maintaining a meticulously organized archive of production information and assets
  • Finding new artists to photograph for the magazine
  • Helping to brainstorm and craft photo galleries for Billboard.com
  • General admin assistance for the photo departments
