Your Role at St John of God, Midland Hospital The Theatre Orderly supports the safe, efficient, and smooth operation of surgical services by assisting nursing and clinical staff in patient care, theatre preparation, and equipment management. This role involves transporting and positioning patients, preparing, and restocking theatres, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with infection control and occupational health and safety standards. To support our casual team, you will have availability to work across a rotating roster, including night shifts and weekends. The Position Assist nursing staff in the care of patients. Transport patients on beds and trolleys. Assist with patient positioning and transfers. Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and comfort. Support patients during procedures such as epidural insertion. Prepare beds, trolleys, and equipment for pre- and post-operative care. Set up operating theatres according to surgical lists. Clean theatre tables, equipment, and theatres between cases. Ensure equipment is charged, maintained, and reported for repairs. Transport equipment, linen, waste, and instrument carts. Assist with movement of theatre equipment and operating tables. Deliver and collect equipment and supplies across departments. Maintain high standards of theatre cleaning and infection control. Clean operating lights, tables, machines, and equipment. Decontaminate blood or body fluid spills immediately. Restock theatre and recovery areas with required supplies. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of theatres, stores, and change rooms. Manage linen, waste disposal, and sharps containers. Transport blood and specimens between theatres and pathology. Restock specimen containers and formalin bottles as required. The Position Requirements You will have an understanding of and ability to apply occupational health and safety principles to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace when assisting nursing and clinical staff with patient care, transporting, and positioning patients. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team, is essential for this role. You will have proven experience in prioritising and coordinating tasks effectively, take proactive steps to minimise hazards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Holding a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance or ongoing tertiary study in a health-related field, is desirable.
