Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Theatre Practitioner, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our patients receive high-quality care in a safe and efficient manner. Your main duties will include:

  • Peri-operative Care: Assisting in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care during surgery under the supervision of the specialist core team.
  • Clinical Leadership: Supporting the senior practitioners by acting as a lead within the surgical team during specific operating lists.
  • Patient Safety & Governance: Ensuring patient safety, well-being, and dignity while promoting a culture of clinical governance and risk management.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintaining accurate theatre records in accordance with trust and departmental policies.
  • Equipment & Infection Control: Ensuring all surgical equipment is used safely and effectively, assisting with infection prevention, and maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Training & Development: Completing theatre competencies, attending mandatory training, and engaging in professional development opportunities.
  • Team Collaboration: Working closely with the multidisciplinary surgical team to ensure seamless patient care and efficient surgical procedures.

ENHANCED RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of this enhanced role, you will have the opportunity to develop advanced clinical knowledge and surgical skills. This will involve:

  • Assisting in patient positioning for surgical interventions.
  • Performing skin preparation and applying sterile surgical drapes.
  • Anticipating and providing skilled operative assistance to the surgeon.
  • Handling surgical instruments, retraction, and tissue manipulation.
  • Assisting with haemostasis, irrigation, suction, and wound closure techniques.
  • Preparing, handling, and operating endoscopic cameras.
  • Performing ureteral catheterisation and peripheral venous cannulation.
  • Assisting in the insertion of arterial and central venous pressure (CVP) lines.
  • Supporting airway management and basic anaesthetic techniques.
  • Applying post-operative surgical dressings and ensuring safe patient recovery.
