Description

Shape and lead a brand new surgical centre. High autonomy, top salary, no weekends, and real influence over care delivery and team culture.Theatre Services Manager – Lead a New Era in Surgical Care | Wellington
Location: Newtown, Wellington
Type: Full-Time
Salary: $150,000 to $170,000
This is a rare opportunity to lead the theatre department in a brand new, purpose-built day-stay surgical centre from the ground up. Set to open in late 2025, the facility will provide high-quality orthopaedic care in an environment that values teamwork, innovation, and people, not bureaucracy.
If you’re ready to step away from the pressures and red tape of the public system and into a leadership role where your voice matters, this role offers the autonomy and influence you’ve been looking for. You’ll help build something meaningful from day one and lead a small, competent team in an environment where collaboration and clinical excellence are prioritised.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE

You’ll partner with the General Manager to bring the new surgical facility to life, contributing across clinical planning, commissioning, and workforce development. Once operational, you’ll oversee day-to-day theatre operations, lead the clinical team, and ensure the smooth delivery of services and outstanding patient outcomes.
This is a leadership role where strategic planning, hands-on support, and collaborative leadership intersect. You’ll have scope to work clinically when needed, while mentoring your team and driving operational excellence.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead the theatre team to deliver safe, high-quality surgical services
  • Oversee clinical operations, workforce planning, rostering and resource allocation
  • Set and monitor clinical standards, processes, and performance targets
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with surgeons and senior leadership
  • Use data to drive decision-making, improve outcomes, and optimise efficiency
  • Create a workplace culture where staff feel supported, heard, and proud to contribute
  • Take a lead role in recruiting, onboarding, and developing clinical staff
