Description A Theology Teacher at Aurora Central Catholic would be responsible for teaching theology courses in alignment with the Roman Catholic Church, fostering students’ spiritual development, and supporting the mission of the school. This teacher should integrate faith and reason in the classroom and serve as a witness to Catholic values. They must support and uphold the philosophy, mission, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the school and would be expected to serve as a role model of Christian virtue and participate fully in the sacramental and communal life of the school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Teach theology courses in accordance with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Curriculum Framework. Develop lesson plans that reflect Catholic doctrine, Sacred Scripture, Church tradition, and moral theology. Incorporate Church documents such as the Catechism of the Catholic Church and papal encyclicals (e.g., from Roman Catholic Church leadership). Assess and evaluate student progress through exams, essays, projects, and participation. Integrate prayer, reflection, and liturgical awareness into classroom instruction. Faith Leadership & Spiritual Formation Model and uphold Catholic teachings in word and conduct. Participate in school Masses, prayer services, retreats, and liturgical events. Encourage students’ moral and spiritual growth. Support the school’s Catholic identity and mission. Classroom Environment Establish a respectful, faith-centered learning environment. Maintain classroom discipline consistent with school policies. Foster critical thinking, respectful dialogue, and theological inquiry. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with theology department members and campus ministry staff. Communicate effectively with parents, students, and administration. Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and diocesan training sessions. Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church. Commitment to Catholic doctrine and moral teaching. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Master’s degree in Theology State teaching certification (as required). Prior high school teaching experience. Completion of diocesan safe environment training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Sacred Scripture, Church history, moral theology, and Church teachings. Ability to engage adolescents in theological reflection and discussion. Skill in integrating Catholic social teaching into contemporary issues. Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems.
