Responsibilities/Job Description:
The Therapeutic Gaming and Technology Specialist will provide therapeutic opportunities using various technology modalities to patients and families. The Therapeutic Gaming and Technology Specialist will be responsible for implementing direct patient interventions that allow for the creation and use of technology as a therapeutic coping tool. The Therapeutic Gaming and Technology Specialist will be responsible for developing interventions focused on promoting positive coping, fostering resiliency, and normalizing the hospital environment. The Therapeutic Gaming and Technology Specialist will follow policies and procedures consistent with the vision, mission and guiding principles of the Zucker Family Suite and Broadcast Studio and MHealth Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the child life team and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to generate one on one interventions using technology to improve the healthcare experience of patients and families.

Develop pathways and functional interventions to provide bedside programming. Incorporate various technology modalities to promote technology as a positive coping tool, as well as discovering innovative technology that can benefit programming. Minimize barriers that impact a patient’s ability to engage in technology programming.

  • Enhance and support the use of technology for therapeutic purposes with hospital stakeholders and members of the interdisciplinary team whose services are optimized by the utilization of the technology capabilities. Partner with the child life team to provide a vibrant milieu of technology programs/interventions that supports children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development. Provide instruction and support to members of the interdisciplinary team for use of the basic functions of the technology available for supporting patients.
  • Maintain expertise in area of specialty. Seeks opportunities for professional education and networking with other technology specialists within children’s hospitals. Implements new technology and interventions into the department.
  • Optimize quality and outcomes for technology programming/interventions. Ensure technology interventions are in alignment with vision and mission Zucker Family Suite and Broadcast Studio to promote entertainment, education, and therapeutic experiences. Develop, maintain and analyze analytics that improve quality and outcomes related to the technology. Implement current best practice around patient safety, privacy, and infection prevention strategies.

  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting related to the technology. Work well with IT, Facilities Services and vendors contracted. Perform maintenance and software updates as needed on all technology and equipment. Anticipate and facilitate technology updates and upgrades for all technology and equipment assigned by supervisor.

Use quality improvement processes for assigned programs. Utilize systems within the hospital to successfully implement program(s). Uses quality improvement tools and techniques to assess work issues and make improvements.

  • Follow all of Child’s Play requirements for grant position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S./B.A.
  • Therapeutic Gaming and Technology Specialist needs to possess skills in: • Video gaming systems • iPads • Virtual Reality • Augmented Reality • Stop Motion and Time Lapse applications
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant work experience working with patients and families in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of growth and development and stress response of children and families to healthcare situations
  • Customer Experience working with others from various backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience with technology, trouble shooting and leading initiatives
  • Certification within field of expertise
