How you make a difference:
The Therapeutic Safety Technician (TST) is a crucial member of the interdisciplinary clinical team who supports the delivery of person-centered care to patients at the hospital. They work alongside clinical and medical personnel to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, and help to support the patient’s wellness during community visits. The TST uses a trauma-informed, recovery/resiliency approach to care to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs a range of patient safety assignments throughout the hospital as assigned.
  • Actively engages with patients to ensure a safe therapeutic environment and supports their well-being.
  • Collaborates with the treatment team to develop crisis intervention plans and patient safety plans.
  • Monitors patients and provides de-escalation and redirection when necessary, using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Provides supportive oversight during off-site activities and emergency responses, employing verbal de-escalation techniques instead of physical force when possible.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Must be at least 19 years of age. Prior work experience with psychiatric patients in a hospital or secure mental health setting preferred, with a focus on patient safety. Must be willing to participate in extensive, ongoing training regarding serious mental illness, de-escalation and intervention techniques, core strategies, patient safety and trauma-informed care.
