DESCRIPTION DU POSTE

Soudeur de thermite est un poste de manœuvre général dans la construction ferroviaire, spécialisé dans la soudure de rails par thermite. Le poste exige que vous construisiez et entreteniez des rails pour différents clients à travers le Canada. Cela vous oblige également à construire/réparer en toute sécurité des voies ferrées, des aiguillages, des croisements, etc. par soudure thermite. Les soudeurs thermite doivent avoir une expérience préalable dans le domaine ferroviaire et des certificats de soudure ferroviaire valides.
Ce poste travaillera au sein d’équipes de soudure qui assembleront des morceaux de rail par le processus de soudure par thermite pour compléter des sections de voie afin de devenir des lignes ferroviaires actives. Cette jonction des rails sera réalisée par le processus de soudure par thermite approprié, y compris les travaux préparatoires et postérieurs pour garantir la stabilité des rails pour leur utilisation. Ce rôle sera la pièce maîtresse des équipes de soudure par thermite, car toute la planification/opération sera déterminée en fonction de l’expérience de l’individu.
Selon vos compétences, d’autres opportunités de soudure peuvent être disponibles. Vous devez être capable d’utiliser divers outils à main/électriques, de petits équipements et de manipuler des matériaux dangereux. Vous travaillerez en équipe pour construire et entretenir des chemins de fer dans de nombreux endroits à travers le Canada.
Ces postes nécessitent des déplacements à 100 % du temps à travers le Canada pour des périodes prolongées. Le travail ferroviaire est TRÈS exigeant physiquement et nécessitera de travailler dans tous les types de conditions météorologiques et climatiques.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Thermite Welder is a General Labourer position in Rail construction, that specializes in Thermite Rail Welding. The position requires you to build and maintain rail for different clients throughout the Canada. It also requires you to safety build/repair railroad tracks, switches, crossings, etc. via Thermite Welding. Thermite Welders must have previous rail experience and valid rail welding tickets.
This position will work in welding crews who will be joining pieces of rail together via the thermite welding process to complete section of track to become active rail lines. This joining of rails will be done via the appropriate rail thermite welding process, including the pre and post work to ensure the rails are stables for usage. This role will be the center piece of the thermite welding crews, as all planning/operating will be determined based on the experience of the individual.
Depending on your skill set, other welding opportunities may be available. You must be able to operate various hand-held/power tools, small equipment and handle hazardous materials. You will be working in a team environment building and maintaining railways in numerous locations across Canada.
These positions require travel 100% of the time throughout Canada for extended periods of time. Railway work is VERY physically demanding and will require working in all types of weather conditions and climate.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of Thermite Welding experience in a heavy railroad industrial environment
  • Thorough knowledge of the Thermite Welding process and procedure
  • In possession of a Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Ability to successfully pass a Drug Test
  • Valid CROR Certification is an Asset
  • Ability to work across Canada and be away from home for an extended period of time
  • Knowledge of general construction and workplace safety lifting and handling procedures
  • Fluent in English with the ability to read, write and speak effectively
  • Physically capable of repetitive bending, standing for long periods of time, lifting/carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, repetitive swinging motions and walking on uneven surfaces (approximately 3 miles per day).
  • Ability to work in the elements across all weather conditions (summer heat, rain, dusty conditions, winter cold etc.)

Responsibilities

Thermite Welder Trackmen duties will be, but not limited to:

  • Meet productivity level requirements set out by Supervisors/Foremen
  • Operates equipment and duties per safety policies, rules and regulations
  • Experienced in the safe operations of the Thermite Welding Process
  • Experienced in the use of Oxygen/Propane cutting and preheating processes
  • Experienced in general railroad track work; such as; rail cutting, rail measuring, rail removal, rail replacement, switch configuration, track construction and restoration
  • Basic track work duties; spiking, anchoring and surfacing
  • Building and maintaining railroads throughout Canada
  • Operating hand-held and power tools for various construction.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors
  • Keeps records and prepares reports of maintenance work
  • Shoveling rocks and dirt for manual grading of surfaces and clearing ballast
  • Clearing railway crossings of brush and tall grass using hand-held tools and equipment
  • Snow removal from crossings and right of ways using shovels, backpack blowers, brooms, etc.
  • Removal of tie plates from the rail
  • Ensuring safety is a priority to yourself, fellow team members, the general public and the assets of the company by following pre-set policies and procedures
  • Daily walk around inspection of machines, general housekeeping of machines and minor repairs when required to ensure safe operation
  • Working and communicating effectively with York Rail and/or Customers Working Team(s)
  • Various loading and unloading of materials such as tools and equipment (spikes, tie plates, joint bars, etc.) to and from various vehicles and machines
  • Compliance with track rules and instructions according to CROR
  • Filling out required paperwork in a neat and accurate manner and adhering to submission deadlines
  • Driving of company vehicles in a responsible, respectful and safe manner
  • Other duties as assigned
