Third Engineer - Marine

Role

• The third engineer is responsible to the chief engineer/second engineer for operations/management of the engine department and machinery watches. It is his duty to conduct the legal orders of the chief engineer/second engineer, and to observe faithfully his standing instructions. He has a responsibility to support the chief engineer/second engineer concerning the operation and maintenance of the machinery to the best of his abilities.
• Authority:
• To make all decisions in support of the legal orders/instructions of the chief engineer/ second engineer.
• Give legal orders/instructions to the oilers.
• To stop any unsafe work that may harm the health of personnel, cause injury to personnel or damage the environment.
• Responsibilities:
• Responsible for assisting the chief engineer/ second engineer in executing all jobs in the department.
• Maintain duty as per rules.
• Execute all PMS as per chief engineer/ second engineer orders.
• Supporting the chief engineer/ second engineer in supervising the conduct of all hot work onboard (shipyard, repairs excepted).
• Maintaining order and crew morale, including shipboard discipline.
• Assisting chief engineer/ second engineer in safe loading and discharge of liquid cargoes, consumable fuel & water, and ballast.
• Assisting chief engineer/ second engineer in conducting regular safety inspections for all vessel’s machinery, equipment and appliances and assess the need for any trading needed for the crew under his supervision.
• Assisting chief engineer/ second engineer in sounding of all tanks on daily basis to reconcile with vessel displacement.
• Maintaining inventory of spares. Propose for needed spares, engine room stores and tools.
• Executing corrective and preventive maintenance of all shipboard piping systems, machinery, and electrical appliances.
• Assisting chief engineer/ second engineer in keeping necessary logs and records of engine department activities and maintenance conducted and prospective repair (shipyard repair) work lists.
• To always protect oneself, colleagues, worksites, equipment, and environment.

Pay: From AED150.00 per da
