QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • A safety conscious attitude
  • A minimum of 1 year filling the role of a head timber cruiser in British Columbia
  • A thorough understanding of British Columbia Timber Cruising Manual
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract is a must
  • ATC or ATE accreditation or working towards becoming an ATC or ATE is preferred
  • Registration with the FPBC (or eligible for registration) as a professional forester (RPF) and/or forest technologist (RFT) will be considered as an asset
  • The participate in previous Northern Interior Cruising Committee and/or Southern Interior Timber Cruising Association workshops will be considered an asset
  • Experience with helicopter access will be considered an asset
  • Experience in supervising, mentoring, and coaching technical assistants

Responsibilities

The Timber Cruiser is responsible for forest development activities including the development of cruise plans, operational timber cruising, quality control, data summary, the development of final cruise maps, and the compilation of cruise data and deliverables. This is a field focused position, but some office work will be required. Work in other phases of timber development should be anticipated.
