Description
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely material and cost estimates to support projects across all three divisions of Timber-Tech Group of Companies. With a strong focus on lumber take-offs, this role plays a critical part in supporting sales, operations, and project planning by ensuring estimates align with design specifications, production requirements, and current material costs. The Estimator works collaboratively with internal teams to support bid accuracy, cost control, and overall project success. The starting salary for this position is $75,000-$85,000 per year, based on experience levels. Key Responsibilities: Estimating & Take-Offs: Prepare detailed and accurate material take-offs. Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and material requirements. Develop comprehensive cost estimates for projects across all divisions. Ensure estimates are aligned with current pricing, availability, and production capabilities. Project & Bid Support: Assist in the preparation of quotes, bids, and proposals for new and ongoing projects. Work closely with sales and design teams to clarify project scope and requirements. Identify risks, gaps, or discrepancies in project documentation and communicate accordingly. Support value engineering initiatives by identifying cost-saving opportunities. Cost Analysis & Accuracy: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material pricing. Analyze cost trends and provide input on pricing strategies. Ensure consistency and accuracy in estimating methodologies across divisions. Track estimate vs. actual costs where applicable to support continuous improvement. Cross-Divisional Collaboration: Provide estimating support to all three corporate divisions, ensuring alignment and consistency. Collaborate with operations, purchasing, and production teams to validate material requirements. Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders regarding timelines, scope changes, and estimate updates. Systems & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, take-offs, and supporting documentation. Utilize estimating software and ERP systems as required (e.g., MiTek, Acumatica, or similar). Ensure data integrity and organization of project files for easy reference and audit. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes, tools, and accuracy. Contribute to the development and standardization of estimating practices across divisions. Support process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce errors. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications: 2–5 years of experience in estimating, preferably within construction, manufacturing, or wood products industries. Strong experience with lumber take-offs and interpreting construction drawings. Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field is an asset. Experience with estimating and ERP software (e.g., MiTek, Acumatica) is considered an asset. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant tools. Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a high attention to detail. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
