JOB DESCRIPTION – TIMBER YARD OPERATIVE / MACHINIST

We are currently recruiting for a Timber Yard Operative / Machinist to work in our Melton Mowbray Branch.
The successful applicant will be joining a busy team in our 4-acre site.
SUMMARY
As a Timber Yard Operator/ Machinist, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organised Timber Yard. You’ll load and unload materials, accurately cut timber to customers size specifications, whist ensuring safety at all times. Reporting to the Timber Manager. The organisation expects you to demonstrate professionalism and reliability while representing our commitment to customer satisfaction.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A good level of education at GCSE levels and above.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in yard operations and/or machine environment.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of basic yard tools and equipment, as well as Fork Lift truck experience and/or licence.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, organisational, and customer service skills; ability to work independently and adapt to changing workloads.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25kg regularly and operate forklifts and other machinery safely.
Working Environment: Typically working in an outdoor setting, which will involve exposure to various weather conditions. The role requires a hands-on approach, often involving physical labour.

· To coordinate loading and unloading of materials, maintain accurate inventory, and ensure proper storage and delivery of products.
· To operative cutting saws and planers, to produce products to customers specifications.
· Maintain accurate paperwork related to inventory, equipment inspections, and daily operations.
· General housekeeping, keeping the saw area and stock areas clean, tidy and free of potential hazards.
· Reporting directly and working closely with the timber manager.
