Description

ABOUT THIS POSITION

TNO is looking for a Project Developer with knowledge of groundwater management and geotechnics. TNO has long been at the forefront of geosciences, our Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN) plays a crucial role in understanding and managing the subsurface. In-depth knowledge of groundwater and shallow geology is crucial in the current societal debate around the use versus the protection. At TNO, we lead on 3D modeling and groundwater management, combining this expertise in digital twins, including the above-ground environment. This advanced technology is essential for addressing complex societal challenges. Groundwater is a vital resource, integral to water supply, agriculture, ecosystem preservation, subsidence and climate adaptation strategies. As the world faces increasing challenges such as climate change, the energy transition, urbanization, and resource scarcity, the need for sustainable groundwater management has never been greater. TNO is committed to advancing knowledge and innovation in groundwater management. Our research addresses critical areas such as groundwater protection, sustainable extraction, aquifer management & recharge, and the impacts of geo-energy, land subsidence and climate change on water resources. We collaborate with a wide range of partners, including government agencies, industry stakeholders, and research institutions, to develop solutions that ensure the sustainable use of groundwater resources for future generations.

Responsibilities

WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE?

In this role, you will be developing and driving innovation projects, R&D programs, and partnerships focused on sustainable sub-surface and groundwater management. Your work will span several critical areas, including groundwater monitoring and modeling, aquifer storage and recovery, pollution prevention, and the integration of groundwater resources into broader environmental and climate adaptation strategies. Other important research questions are related to the influence from the sub-surface on infrastructure, water works and building projects. As a Project Developer in Groundwater, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing Business Opportunities: Identifying and establishing new business-to-business collaborations, joint industry projects, and multi-year research programs.
  • Developing an innovation roadmap together with the relevant research groups.
  • Driving Strategic Partnerships: Expanding TNO’s key accounts and developing long-term relationships with government agencies, water authorities, knowledge institutes and private sector partners.
  • Strengthening Innovation Ecosystems: Building and nurturing an innovation ecosystem around groundwater research.
  • Supporting Research and Development: Collaborating with TNO’s groundwater scientists and other experts from other departments (AI, Digital twins etc.) to translate cutting-edge research into practical solutions that address real-world challenges.
  • Promoting Sustainable Practices: Advocating for sustainable groundwater use and promoting the integration of groundwater management into broader environmental policies and energy systems.

As a Project Developer, you will play a key role in bringing TNO’s technical expertise and innovative solutions to the market. Leveraging TNO’s broad array of scientific disciplines and decades of experience, you will help shape the future of groundwater management. Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Educational Background: A university degree in hydrogeology, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, geosciences, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: Five to ten years of experience in a strategic commercial role, with a proven track record in business-to-business project development and public-private partnerships.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of groundwater management, including technical and regulatory aspects, and an established network in the Netherlands within groundwater management, environmental consulting, geotechnical consulting or related sectors.
  • Innovation Focus: Ability to develop and sell new propositions, with a strong affinity for R&D and technology-driven solutions in groundwater management.
  • Eager to work closely with the experts in the team to help them bring their ideas to the market.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Dutch
