Basic Function Responsible for making tools and dies in accordance with customer requirements and specifications Responsibilities Reads and interprets specifications such as blueprints, job orders, sketches, or verbal descriptions and plans sequence of operations. Fits and assembles parts to make or repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, or machinist’s hand tools. Continually applies knowledge of tool design, shop math, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures. Uses measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gages, gage blocks, and optical comparators. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, stamping presses, milling machines, swaggers, and grinders to correct specifications. Verifies the part after stamping for configuration to specification. Designs and assembles too/s as required. Maintains product logs. Reports discrepancies to management immediately. Maintains tools, gages, and equipment in a clean orderly, and safe manner. Complies with company policies and procedures giving special attention to safety regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
