Description

Our client, a leading plastics manufacturer serving the automotive industry for over 40 years, is seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker / Mold Maker to join their growing team at their Kansas City facility.
This critical role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of complex injection molds and tooling systems, ensuring uninterrupted production and operational efficiency. This position offers a dynamic work environment with exposure to advanced machining technologies and CNC equipment. You will collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams, contributing to a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker or Mold Maker with any injection molding or plastics manufacturing environment experience is desirable.
  • Proven experience with injection molding equipment from manufacturers such as Husky, Engel, Milacron, Arburg, KraussMaffei, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of hot runner systems, mold base assemblies, and water flow circuits.
  • Proficiency in manual and CNC machining processes including milling, turning, drilling, and grinding.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and interpret mold/tooling specifications.
  • Experience with mold welding, spotting, and hand polishing techniques preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or off-shift hours as production demands.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently standing or walking for long periods.
  • Lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 35 lbs regularly.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, or working in confined spaces.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to inspect and manipulate small mold components.
Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on injection molds and tooling systems.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds to address wear, damage, or operational issues.
  • Troubleshoot mold-related problems including hot runner systems, manifolds, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Utilize machining equipment such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and CNC machines to fabricate or rework components.
  • Perform mold polishing, welding, and surface restoration to restore dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, mold blueprints, and tool designs.
  • Document all repair and maintenance activities, ensuring accurate tooling and mold histories.
  • Collaborate with tooling and process engineers to improve cycle times, mold performance, and durability.
  • Maintain proper inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables used in mold repair.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
