JOB DESCRIPTION for Tool and Die Maker JOB TITLE DEPARTMENT Tool and Die Maker IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB CLASS Tool Room Supervisor, Non-exempt JOB SUMMARY Tool and die maker responsible for fashioning precision tools and dies that will be used to form, shape, or cut materials. Responsibilities include: * Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies. * File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together. * Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary. * Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. * Use jigs, fixtures, and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products. * Complete daily department reports * Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. * Troubleshooting dies in the press and on the bench to make parts to point and run at rate. * Assist with tool and die apprentice training * Additional items as assigned by manager PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY This position interacts with other trades in and outside their area including Press Operators, Quality Control, Project Managers, and Engineering.
